Leadership cannot be imposed.

It must be earned.
The transformation we are living through is redefining the very meaning of leadership. It is no longer the leader moving within the organization: it is leadership circulating within the group that allows it to move forward through digital transformation.
This is not a semantic nuance. It is a paradigm shift.
The limits of the leader–manager model
Too often leadership is reduced to a governance competence: best practices, personal growth, individual awareness.
The idea of the leader–manager.
But if this model were truly sufficient, why does it fail so often?
Because groups are not guided simply by formal roles. They follow what they perceive as reliable, competent, and consistent.
Today leadership is not something one can simply claim. It is something the group recognizes.
Two models compared
The difference is clear.
Circulating leadership
emerges from the group
is recognized for credibility and effectiveness
is grounded in trust
is legitimized through shared experience
Assigned leadership (Circular)
is imposed from outside
is defined by a formal role
does not always reflect the real capacity to guide through complexity
can generate distance or resistance
In the first case, leadership is a process. In the second, it is a position.
A dynamic responsibility
Leadership is no longer a stable title.
It is a responsibility that moves and redistributes itself over time.
Anyone can exercise it when they are able to support the group during a crucial phase, with relational reliability and mutual trust.
This does not mean the absence of roles.
It means that the role, by itself, is not enough.
Leadership is earned every day through the quality of the relationships it creates.
Why group clinical insight is essential
This is where the clinical understanding of groups becomes crucial.
Taking care of the group means creating the conditions in which leadership can emerge from trust and relationships.
It means observing:
how credibility is built (or lost)
how speech and dialogue circulate within the group
how conflicts and uncertainty are navigated
how the group grants — or withdraws — legitimacy
Authentic leadership is not personal power.
It is shared energy that supports change and strengthens collective identity.
Closing
Leadership cannot be imposed. It cannot be established by decree. It cannot be guaranteed by a title.
It is earned through relationships.
And when the group recognizes it, it becomes a transformative force.
